Maier and Maier

Bio:
Ulli Maier is a travel photographer based in Austria. She has been holding a camera since her first trip to Greece at the age of 15. During her adventures through Africa by 4x4 truck in the late 70s, travelling & photography became her greatest passion. Ulli is a travel photographer by heart and shares this passion with her daughter Nisa.

Why I chose Maier and Maier:
Maier and Maier's work enticed me due to the range of different locations in which they shoot there photographs. It is although they have covered every aspect of the globe, from the dense jungles in the mountainous areas of Asia, to the urban city life. The work of both mother and daughter duo Maier and Maier explores the different landscapes and they go on a range of different journeys both in their work and also around the world. They often use landscapes with a diverse range of colours, whether it be the contrasting rich green forestry with the strong blue background, or the bright lights of a city among a black polluted backdrop. I have not studied landscapes as strongly as these, and I want to conform and study the work of Maier's where the diverse landscapes of the planets are shown.

In this image, we can see the sheer beauty of the natural geology of this planet. The first thing that the audience is drawn to is the middle of the image, where the spectator is able to see the formal element of reflection. However, due to the bold colour of the blue and its contrast between this and the grey mountains behind it, it doesn't reflect much of the scenery in this shot.
This is urban life at its finest, explored through an image which shows the high rise buildings and the densely populated areas. The image appears to be fairly dirty, however the formal element of pattern is explored through the several similar floors of the image. The iconography of this image makes it appear as though it is an asian city.
The formal element of line is displayed greatly in this image as well as the Journey theme. This is because there is a road in the middle of the desert which appears to be never ending. The line draws the audiences attention and allows it to follow the road up the mountain.
In this image, we see people being introduced into the work of Maier and Maier. We are shown a car, with two males sat inside it. It allows the audience to see the culture of the area and place people in the scenes. Due to the sign above  among the blue background, we are able to see the country and the part of the world in which the image originates from. This is enhanced by the ethnicity of the males inside the shot.
