Rome - Work Diaries

When I visited Rome for the week, I was constantly taking photographs and therefore I never had a specific set of shoots ready. If I was at college, I would have a timetable showing which shoots I would be doing when and what I would be photographing, however this is impossible on a city break. Therefore, what I have decided to do is to round up all of the images I took in Rome within one work diary, analysing what made me group the shoots and the challenges I had with all three.

Firstly, I decided to take a range of Panoramas when I was in Rome. The reason I did this was because I was inspired by an image in my Research Log where the photographer used a wide angled lens and created a 'fisheye' effect. This made the image appear 3D and stood out to me. So, when there was a landmark or a tourist attraction which I did not feel could be shown to the full extent through a single image, I decided to take several and create panoramas to show the viewer exactly what it was like when I was there photographing. I did this in several iconic parts of Rome, such as in the Colosseum, where I was able to capture the entire inside from side to side. I also did this in the Palazzo Square, and by the Spanish Steps. In the end, I finished with 10 good panoramas that enable to show how my work has been explored through the use of a different style of photography.

Secondly, I decided to take documentary style images by using a different camera to my Nikon D3200. This camera was much easier to carry around with me, and enabled me to take pictures in places to capture the moment. This is outlined as Shoot 3. However, these are not the best quality images and although some came out perfect, some also appeared to be grainy when taken at night. Therefore, I opted to take the night images again using my Nikon D3200 as it takes images in much better quality. I also bought my zoom lens with me, which meant that I was able to capture large groups of people from far away and have a minimum depth of field. This is mainly shown through my Shoot 5 images.

Progression

My next shoot will include me going to London and photographing Street Style at London Fashion Week. I feel like this topic has been heading towards that way ever since I have studied the work in my Research Log. I will aim to capture a range of different models on different backgrounds and do so in a way which captures the colour of the clothing.
